Smt. Sujatha Mohan started her dance Institution “Padmashree Nrithyalaya”. in the year 1997 and for the past 13 years she has been training students in the style of Bharathanrithyam. She strictly adheres to the “Natya Shastra” techniques of dancing which has been researched by her Guru Dr.Padma Subrahmanyam and emphasizes on the 108 karanas or dance units. This “Margi” style as per her Guru is more aesthetic, energetic, alluring and encompassing amongst the various Desi styles prevalent today.
She has trained and conducted “arangetrams” for many of her students and is successfully marching forward in her goal of training students in a quality conscious system rather than being quantity oriented. She has choreographed more than hundred songs and some Dance Ballet productions such as: Rasaleela, Dasavatharam, Valli Thirumanam, Andal Kalyanam, Panchabootas, Ramayanam, Swagatham Krishna, Parashakthi Prabhavam, and Aarupadai Veedu.
Sujatha’s senior students have been performing in all leading sabhas and also in various temples in tamilnadu. They have been well appreciated for performing the karanas in a very subtle and aesthetic manner.Under Sujatha’s able teaching her students have received recognition by way of awards and prizes in various competitions from reputed Sabhas and Organizations like Karthik Fine Arts, Sri Sivan Fine Arts Academy, Mylapore Arts Academy, Shri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation, Bharathi Yuva Kendra and “Thaka Dhimi Tha” show of JAYA TV. Her students have given performances in prominent sabhas of Chennai and also at the Natyanjali festivals in Tamilnadu. Performances of her students have been well appreciated by eminent Guru’s like Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, Shri..M.V. Narasimhachari, Shri.V.P.Dhananjayan, Shri. Adayar K. Lakshmanan, Smt. Chitra Visweshwaran, Smt. Sudharani Raghupathi, Smt.Nandini Ramani, Smt.Priyadarshini Govind, Smt.Srikala Bharath and Smt.Anita Guha.
